EDM Pluck & Rave Leads
If you want something a bit more melodic, there's the classic EDM pluck lead, a nice sound that's often used for arpeggios or even just on its own for melodies. And of course, there's the classic rave lead, which you’ll often find in trance productions.
EDM Pluck Lead (20:57) #
- Start with a Saw wave.
- Turn on Unison (16 voices) and "Fat" mode to make it huge.
- Set your Amplitude Envelope to a "pluck" shape: 0 Attack, 0 Sustain, and a short-to-medium Decay
- Set your Filter Envelope to a similar pluck shape, modulating the Filter Cutoff.
- Add an Arpeggiator.
- Add Convolution Reverb and Delay to fill up the space.
Classic Rave Lead (22:39) #
- Start with the same base as the EDM Pluck: a Saw wave with 16-voice Unison.
- Open the filter completely (or turn it off). You want all the raw, high frequencies.
- Detune the [bleep] out of it! Max out the detune knob for that classic, chaotic, airy sound.
- (Optional) Add a Sine wave sub-oscillator to keep the root note strong.
- (Optional) Use a wide Band Pass filter to focus the sound's energy in a specific frequency range.
