What this course covers
Welcome to this course! This is your first step toward becoming a Bitwig or modular enthusiast. I'll teach you how Bitwig Studio's Grid works, how to make music, and how to build effects and instruments.
Learning the Grid isn't everything—you'll need some basic understanding of music production, how synths and effects work, and even a bit of math and physics in certain areas to get the most out of it.
But don't worry! I'll give you everything you need to understand what's going on and why, including some basic DSP and math concepts. I'm not a pro in every category either, so it's definitely learnable for everyone.
What you want to do with the Grid also matters. Beyond building instruments, effects, and note tools, you can create fully generative patches that run on their own, sometimes in very creative ways. The Grid is highly modular—audio modules can also be used for pitch or modulation signals, leading to unique sounds and sequences. You can get creative not just with the output but with the patch design itself, turning the patch into the art rather than just the sound it produces.
To summarize:
You'll learn how the Grid works, how to use it, ideas for what you can create, and some basics of music theory, DSP, and production. However, I can only scratch the surface here, as the Grid's possibilities are vast.
This is also why much of this information isn't found in the Bitwig manual. Some critics say, "This should be in the manual," but it's hard for a synth to explain everything you can do with it—it would be like listing every word you can write with the letter "A." This course focuses on the Grid while touching on other areas where needed and helpful.
