Grid Window

It's pretty simple to enter the Grid! You can either click the small button on the Grid device or click directly into the mini view of the Grid to open the full window. The mini view also acts as a handy overview map of your patch, allowing you to navigate or scroll through the Grid. Just click, hold, and drag in the desired direction!

Main Window Controls (Left Side)

When the Grid is open, the top bar on the left side includes:

  1. On/Off Switch: Turns the Grid on or off, effectively putting it to sleep.
  2. Lock Button: Locks the Grid, preventing any changes and hiding the module palette for a cleaner view.
  3. Hide Palette Button: Only hides the module palette without locking the Grid.
  4. Search Bar: Allows you to search for specific modules in the palette.
    • Clicking the arrow next to the magnifying glass opens a search history.

Main Window Controls (Right Side)

On the top right side of the Grid window, you can:

  1. Zoom Controls: Zoom in and out, or click the center button to reset to the default zoom level.
  2. Detach Window Button: Undocks the Grid window so you can move it freely—great for working with multiple Grids or using a second monitor.
  3. Close Button: Closes the Grid window.

Adding Modules

You can now select a category in the module palette or search for a specific module directly. Using click & drag, you can drop the desired module into the Grid at your chosen spot. If you drag the module directly onto an input or output jack of another module, it will automatically create a connection, super convenient since you don't have to manually route cables afterward!

Make Connections

To draw a cable, simply click on an output jack, hold the mouse button, and drag it to the desired input jack of another module. This will create a connection between the modules.

You can repeat this process to create multiple connections from the same output to other modules. Each module can have multiple output cables, but only one input cable per jack.

If you want to combine multiple signals into a single input, you'll need to use a Mixer module or an Add module to merge the signals.

Alter connections

To remove a connection just double click connected in/output jack and release it in the empty space between the modules. you can also move the cable to another module by tripple click and already connected in/output jack.

I think that should cover everything you need to get started with the Grid. There’s a little trick or hack for almost everything in Bitwig, but going over all of them would make this course way too long.
