Thank you to all my Patreon Supporters

Tutorial | Feb 02, 2025

I wanted to express my gratitude to my long-time and new Patreons, who allow me to provide free content and maintain an open-source approach by supporting me financially. I'm excited to share updates on upcoming projects like the Melody Maker, Scale Maker, and a new chord progression tool, which I plan to release soon. I'm also participating in a podcast today and will likely create another video tomorrow, so stay tuned!

Summary

Maybe you don't watch the video, here are some important takeaways:

Hey everyone, welcome back! I didn't initially plan to make a video today, but I felt it was important to share some thoughts with you. First off, I want to express my deep gratitude to my Patrons. Many of them have been subscribing and supporting me for years, with some on board for over six years. Their generous contributions are what allow me to continue creating and sharing free presets and content with all of you. It's because of their support that I can afford to research and develop new ideas, and dedicate time to producing content.

A question that might come to mind is why I offer so much free content. Last year, I polled my Patrons to see if they were okay with this approach. Traditionally, a Patron supports a tier to receive specific content or perks, akin to a transactional exchange. However, my amazing Patrons reassured me that they support me not just for the products but to enable me to keep doing what I love. This backing aligns with my philosophy of open-source sharing, akin to offering knowledge and resources freely to anyone who might benefit from them.

Reflecting on my journey, when I started learning how to produce electronic music, resources were scarce and primarily available in forums where novices like me gathered to share insights. I even launched a German forum called Producer Network, fostering a community of knowledge sharing. This background instilled in me a belief that educational resources and knowledge, especially in creative fields like music, should be accessible to anyone.

Growing up in a communist country until age ten also shaped my perspective on knowledge sharing. I strongly feel that especially in a world where education can be hard to attain, resources like these should be freely available. I can continue this mission because of my Patrons' unwavering support.

Looking ahead, I've got exciting developments in the pipeline. I'm working on updating various scripts, including controller scripts, the Melody Maker, and the Scale Maker. I'm also developing a chord progression tool, a project I've been keen on for a while. Although interface limitations pose some challenges, I'm committed to finding creative solutions. This tool will aim to help users craft beautiful diatonic and modal chord progressions efficiently.

Furthermore, I'm planning to enhance the Scale Maker and Melody Maker by making the scales modular. This means you can swap them out or customize them using simple text or JSON files, and they will be compatible across different tools, offering a personalized experience.

Today, I'll also be participating in a podcast with Odo and Jurgen. I'm not entirely sure of the topics, but it should be an interesting session. I'll likely post another video tomorrow, though I haven't decided on the content yet.

In closing, I want to thank all of you for watching, subscribing, and particularly my Patrons for their continued support. It's truly amazing to think about how long this journey has been, and it's all possible because of you. If you enjoyed the video, feel free to give it a thumbs up. See you tomorrow, and have a fantastic weekend!

[00:00:00] Hey, folks, welcome back to another video.
[00:00:02] I didn't actually wanted to make a video today, but I feel like I need to put something out there.
[00:00:08] So the first thing I want to talk about is actually my Patreons.
[00:00:12] So I have a lot of Patreons that are subscribed for multiple years now.
[00:00:16] Some people are subscribed for six or more years that pay me every month, right?
[00:00:23] Without you, I couldn't do this stuff because I put out a lot of free presets,
[00:00:29] free content here and there.
[00:00:31] And it's not possible, actually, without Patreons because they pay my rent.
[00:00:37] So I want to give out a big thanks to all my Patreons who are subscribed for so long,
[00:00:42] also to all the new Patreons, of course.
[00:00:44] That makes it basically possible that I put out my content or that I have free time
[00:00:51] or can research every time or every day for new stuff, for new ideas,
[00:00:57] putting out content, putting out videos and yeah, all the stuff I'm doing.
[00:01:01] So very helpful, big thanks out to you.
[00:01:05] So then maybe some of you that watch my channel ask yourself,
[00:01:11] why do you put out so much free content?
[00:01:14] And there was a poll last year on my Patreon I made and I asked the people
[00:01:20] if it's OK that I put out free content because normally it works like this,
[00:01:25] that you have a Patreon tier and you subscribe to this tier.
[00:01:28] And then for this tier, you get a certain gift, right?
[00:01:33] So you pay something, let's say five bucks, and then you get presets back as a gift.
[00:01:38] But it's more like, you know, you pay for something and you get something back.
[00:01:42] So it's more like a product, usual,
[00:01:44] consume capitalistic way of dealing with things.
[00:01:49] So I'm asking basically my Patreons if it's OK.
[00:01:53] If I put out a lot of free stuff, even though people pay me on Patreon.
[00:02:00] And most of my Patreons are pretty cool to say this way.
[00:02:06] And I said, yeah, let's just do it.
[00:02:09] Put it out.
[00:02:10] I'm not here for buying something.
[00:02:14] I want to support you with my money and just keep doing what you do.
[00:02:18] So that's that's what I'm doing, basically.
[00:02:21] So I'm not locking a lot of content behind any special tiers anymore,
[00:02:27] even though I probably do it in the future here and there.
[00:02:32] But most of the stuff is free.
[00:02:34] And this thinking for having this free stuff out there is
[00:02:39] more or less like because I'm liking open source.
[00:02:44] I'm liking this idea of open source.
[00:02:46] There are also on YouTube when you watch YouTube videos, right?
[00:02:51] A lot of people try to sell you something.
[00:02:53] They try to sell you, I don't know, presets.
[00:02:56] They sell you sample packs or they sell you whatever.
[00:03:01] I'm selling you basically my Patreon, selling your courses.
[00:03:05] Or you have to subscribe here.
[00:03:07] You have to pay there and something like this.
[00:03:09] So I don't like lock ins.
[00:03:11] I don't like subscriptions.
[00:03:13] I don't like that you have to pay for everything, right?
[00:03:18] So I try to basically put the money where my mouth is, more or less.
[00:03:22] So I'm trying to put out more free content, not like because I think
[00:03:27] it's not worth anything.
[00:03:29] But I'm coming from a time where I try to make music or to learn
[00:03:37] how to produce electronic music without anyone having me as
[00:03:42] a or I don't have any mentor or like someone who teach me something
[00:03:47] or like I couldn't make a course or something
[00:03:49] because it wasn't anything like this on the market.
[00:03:52] The only thing I had was basically some forums with other people
[00:03:56] that also had no clue how to produce music.
[00:03:59] And we tried to figure it out for ourselves in some random forums.
[00:04:04] And I also made a big German forum back then in the days
[00:04:08] called producer network.
[00:04:10] There are a lot of German producers came together and we tried to figure stuff
[00:04:14] out, made some tutorials, shared our knowledge or experiences and so on.
[00:04:18] And I really like this idea that knowledge needs to be out there for free
[00:04:24] for some people, because making music is a good thing.
[00:04:28] It's healthy, making art, you know, express yourself,
[00:04:32] be inspired instead of, you know, just consume other people's stuff for money.
[00:04:40] I'm also, you know, kind of raised in a communistic country until I was 10.
[00:04:46] So these are my roots, more or less.
[00:04:48] So I think stuff like this, this knowledge should be out there for free.
[00:04:53] It's not something you need to pay for.
[00:04:55] I mean, we already have problems with education in multiple countries.
[00:05:01] So I think this stuff should be free.
[00:05:05] So I can do this because I have patrons, right?
[00:05:08] So I have a lot of patrons who subscribe to my Patreon to multiple tiers.
[00:05:14] And I'm really, really grateful and thankful for these people
[00:05:18] paying my rent and allow me to do this.
[00:05:21] So this is more like a thanks to all of you video kind of thing.
[00:05:26] I also want to inform you that a lot of stuff is coming, probably in the next week.
[00:05:31] I'm planning to update these scripts, these controller scripts,
[00:05:35] the melody maker and the scale maker.
[00:05:38] There's also a plan, or at least I have already some code in place
[00:05:42] for a chord progression tool.
[00:05:44] I want to do something like this for quite some time.
[00:05:49] I know the interface is kind of limited with the controller scripts,
[00:05:52] but I find some ways, I find some solutions, right?
[00:05:57] I'm not a big fan of the scalar plug-in.
[00:06:01] This is coming.
[00:06:03] Scalar three is coming probably pretty soon with a nice interface, right?
[00:06:07] And then you select all the chords and you can combine all the chords.
[00:06:11] But it's for me, it's more like a fancy MIDI pack kind of thing.
[00:06:17] So I don't know what they did in version three,
[00:06:21] but version two was not like I'm not a big fan of this.
[00:06:24] So I'm trying to come up with something more intelligent in a scripting way
[00:06:31] that you can construct some basic.
[00:06:36] Good sounding diatonic chord progressions pretty fast with the controller script.
[00:06:40] And maybe also something where you can go outside of the diatonic box.
[00:06:45] We have like modal chord progressions and so on.
[00:06:48] So this is my rough idea for this chord tool.
[00:06:52] I have already some some code in place, but it's it's taking a bit of time,
[00:06:58] but it's probably coming next week or maybe in the next two weeks.
[00:07:03] Then also, like I said, I'm trying to make an update to Scalar Maker and Melody Maker.
[00:07:08] A big feature is, for instance, that I plan to make these scales that you have
[00:07:14] that you can select in the drop down kind of modular.
[00:07:17] So we can change it for yourself with a text file or a JSON file
[00:07:22] that sits right beside my controller script.
[00:07:27] We can exchange it or maybe share it with someone else.
[00:07:30] So not everyone has the same scales.
[00:07:32] Maybe you prefer different scales than I am, right?
[00:07:35] So you can exchange it.
[00:07:36] And then also these scale scale files are shared
[00:07:43] between the Melody Maker and the scale maker
[00:07:47] and of course the chord progression maker then.
[00:07:49] So that's coming then.
[00:07:52] And yeah, I'm also having today
[00:07:56] a podcast with Odo and Jurgen
[00:08:02] and maybe you want to tune in into that.
[00:08:04] I'm not sure what we talk about,
[00:08:07] but probably they ask me some questions or I have no idea.
[00:08:10] So something like this is coming today later.
[00:08:13] Maybe you want to tune in and then I probably do a video tomorrow,
[00:08:19] but I have no idea about what that's I probably get some idea later today.
[00:08:25] That's it. Thanks for watching.
[00:08:27] Thanks for subscribing.
[00:08:29] Thanks to all the Patreons who are supporting me for so long.
[00:08:32] I'm pretty grateful that I can actually do this,
[00:08:36] that I have the time to research and make music, make content.
[00:08:43] It's pretty dope, actually.
[00:08:45] It's actually insane when I think about it, that it worked for so long.
[00:08:48] And yeah, thanks to all of you.
[00:08:52] Thanks for subscribing.
[00:08:54] Leave a like if you liked the video.
[00:08:55] See you tomorrow and have a great weekend.
[00:08:58] Bye.
