LR Gain

LR Gain module panel in Bitwig Grid
LR Gain in Bitwig Grid 6.0.6.

Independent gain controls for the left and right lanes of a stereo Grid signal.

What it does

LR Gain changes the amplitude of the two stereo channels separately. It can rebalance an off-center signal, isolate a channel, compensate unequal branches, or deliberately encode different control depths into the left and right lanes.

Controls and ports

Control Label Official description
left Left Amount of gain applied to the left channel
right Right Amount of gain applied to the right channel

Practical uses

  • Correct a stereo imbalance without collapsing the signal to mono.
  • Mute or attenuate one side while inspecting stereo processing or building channel-specific paths.
  • Apply different modulation depths to the left and right lanes before later stereo-aware modules.

Things to know

  • The controls change channel level directly; they do not use a pan law or move energy from one side to the other.
  • Unequal gains alter both balance and the mid/side relationship of the signal.
  • Silencing one channel does not extract it as dual mono; the other lane remains in its original stereo position.
  • No exact Nitro wrapper has been recovered, so the visible gain range, sign support, and smoothing remain unverified.

Technical details

No Nitro implementation has been confirmed for this visible module. The behavior is described conservatively from module metadata and editorial research.

The installed interface strongly supports the channel-wise model L'=gL*L and R'=gR*R. This is a functional inference from the two controls and description, not a recovered implementation. The exact mapping from displayed gain to linear multipliers, any zero crossing or polarity inversion, parameter smoothing, and mono-cable expansion must be established in Bitwig.

Open questions

  • Measure control units, minimum/maximum/default values, polarity support, and the exact gain curve.
  • Test mono input expansion, stereo independence, parameter smoothing, modulation rate, and output headroom.
  • Locate the visible wrapper or determine whether LR Gain is implemented in host-side Grid code outside the current Nitro image.

Version and sources

Checked against Bitwig Studio 6.0.6. This page combines Bitwig's module metadata, the existing Grid course and guides, and Nitro analysis where the mapping is strong enough to support a technical statement.
