A freely drawable segmented curve that can act as a phase-addressed envelope, modulation sequence, or waveform.

What it does

Slopes reads a user-drawn curve at the current phase position. Unlike a fixed-width step sequencer, it can place breakpoints and curved transitions freely, making it suitable for custom envelopes and continuous shapes.

Controls and ports

The wrapper provides stereo Phase In, a curve editor with BWCURVE import and export, Bipolar mode, anti-aliasing, Mute When Stopped, and a signal output.

Practical uses

  • Draw a custom cyclic modulation shape and scan it with transport or oscillator phase.
  • Use a one-shot phase ramp to turn the curve into a flexible envelope.
  • Enable anti-aliasing when the curve is scanned at audio rate as a custom oscillator waveform.

Things to know

  • Slopes is more flexible than Steps because segment positions and shapes are not restricted to equal-width cells.
  • The input is an address into the curve: changing phase changes where the stored shape is read.
  • Bipolar mode changes the available value range around zero.
  • No dedicated Nitro body has yet been identified, so curve interpolation and anti-aliasing details remain descriptive rather than source-confirmed.

Technical details

No Nitro implementation has been confirmed for this visible module. The behavior is described conservatively from module metadata and editorial research.

Conceptually, Slopes stores ordered control points and evaluates the segment containing the wrapped phase address. The segment curve determines the interpolation between neighboring values, while anti-aliasing should limit discontinuity-related high-frequency energy during audio-rate traversal. The exact BWCURVE representation, interpolation functions, oversampling or filtering method, and endpoint policy have not yet been recovered.

Open questions

  • Identify the implementation or inspect a BWCURVE round trip to document point and curve encoding.
  • Measure every curve type, cycle-edge continuity, anti-aliasing response and latency, stereo behavior, and stopped-transport output.
