Constant

Constant module panel in Bitwig Grid
Constant in Bitwig Grid 6.0.6.

Outputs one fixed numeric value, including values that are awkward to enter with a small knob.

What it does

Constant produces the value set on the module and does not require an input signal. It is a numerical source rather than a generator that changes over time.

Controls and ports

Control Label Official description
value Value Defined value

Practical uses

  • Use it as a fixed offset by connecting it to Add or Subtract.
  • Use it as an exact scale factor, divisor, exponent, or comparison threshold.
  • Enter values outside the usual -1 to +1 display range when a calculation needs them; downstream modules may still impose their own range limits.

Things to know

  • The value is constant for every sample and voice unless a downstream module changes it.
  • A Constant is not automatically limited to the oscilloscope's visible -1 to +1 range.
  • The visible module has no confirmed one-to-one Nitro implementation in the current atlas.

Technical details

No Nitro implementation has been confirmed for this visible module. The behavior is described conservatively from module metadata and editorial research.

Idealized transfer function: y = c, where c is the entered value. The installed metadata confirms the fixed-value contract; the exact storage precision and extreme finite range have not yet been measured in Bitwig.

Open questions

  • Measure the largest finite value and the effective precision retained by the module.

Version and sources

Checked against Bitwig Studio 6.0.6. This page combines Bitwig's module metadata, the existing Grid course and guides, and Nitro analysis where the mapping is strong enough to support a technical statement.
