Amplify

Amplify module panel in Bitwig Grid
Amplify in Bitwig Grid 6.0.6.

A percentage-based multiplier for increasing a signal by as much as 800 percent.

What it does

Amplify multiplies an incoming signal by a positive percentage gain. It is the quick linear counterpart to decibel gain: 100% leaves the input unchanged, 200% doubles it, and the course metadata documents a maximum of 800%.

Controls and ports

In receives the signal, Amount sets the linear amplification percentage up to 800%, and Out returns the scaled signal. Inspector stereo behavior remains to be confirmed.

Practical uses

  • Raise a weak modulation source before it reaches a destination or waveshaper.
  • Expand a narrow random, envelope, or pitch-control range with an immediately readable ratio.
  • Drive a clipper, filter, or nonlinear shaper harder while keeping the gain stage explicit.

Things to know

  • Amplify is linear multiplication, not a saturator or limiter; values above full scale continue downstream unchanged unless another module clips them.
  • 100% is unity, 200% is a factor of 2, and 800% is a factor of 8.
  • Doubling amplitude corresponds to approximately +6.02 dB, so percentage and decibel controls do not move perceptually in the same way.
  • Installed keywords suggest a Stereo-ize option, but its exact right-lane rule is not represented in the recovered Nitro atlas.

Technical details

No Nitro implementation has been confirmed for this visible module. The behavior is described conservatively from module metadata and editorial research.

The functional model is out = in * amount, where Amount is the displayed percentage divided by 100. The course reference establishes the visible upper range of 800%. No dedicated Nitro wrapper has been recovered, so clipping, negative modulation, out-of-range values, smoothing, and Stereo-ize behavior remain implementation questions.

Open questions

  • Measure default, minimum, maximum, typed range, modulation beyond 800%, and negative Amount behavior.
  • Verify unity, 2x, and 8x points with positive, negative, and stereo constants.
  • Check Stereo-ize, parameter smoothing, overflow behavior, and voice scope.
