Bitwig Platform
A volume-fader-style gain stage whose control is presented in decibels.
What it does
Gain - Vol scales an incoming signal like Gain - dB, but presents the parameter as a conventional volume fader. The different control layout makes broad attenuation and the unity region easier to handle in a mixing context.

Practical uses
- Create a familiar channel-volume control inside a larger Grid instrument or effect.
- Fade a layer toward silence with more useful low-level travel than a plain linear percentage knob.
- Expose a performance-oriented master or submix level from a Grid patch.
Things to know
- The DSP role is gain multiplication; the main distinction from Gain - dB is the parameter's fader-oriented configuration and range.
- Equal physical movements on a volume fader do not imply equal linear-amplitude changes.
- Unity is 0 dB, while the bottom of the fader may represent negative infinity rather than a finite multiplier.
- The exact fader law, range, and smoothing need live measurement.
Technical details
No Nitro implementation has been confirmed for this visible module. The behavior is described conservatively from module metadata and editorial research.
The expected audio equation is out = in * 10^(dB/20), identical in principle to Gain - dB. What differs is the host-side parameter mapping called a volume fader: its minimum, maximum, taper, display, and automation law. No dedicated Nitro body has been recovered, so those distinctions remain UI evidence rather than source-level DSP evidence.

- Compare the full parameter mapping, range, resolution, and modulation response directly with Gain - dB.
- Measure negative infinity, unity, maximum gain, smoothing, and automation taper.
- Test stereo independence, non-finite signals, overflow, and voice scope.
