About This Soundscape #
The preset behind this soundscape is called TiefMief, the German name for Deepstink in The Ascent. The name started as a joke, but it fits the buried cyberpunk atmosphere surprisingly well.
There is no conventional melody leading the piece. A long drone and pad-like layer provide a stable center while filtered wind, occasional rain, random noise artifacts, and small percussive sounds move through delay and reverb. Most events and movements are heavily randomized, but the layers are deliberately blended into one space so that no single element pulls too far forward. The result is designed to keep evolving quietly in the background for the full hour.
Inside the Patch #
The patch is not one large signal chain. The analyzer found eleven Audio Out modules, which indicates eleven separately assembled sound branches feeding the preset output. Across those branches are sine, sawtooth, and noise sources, scale-aware pitch processing, probability-based triggers, filters, delays, chorus, pitch shifting, and other processing.
Random control is a major part of the design. The graph contains 44 Dice modules alongside S/H LFO, Chance, Probabilities, Sample / Hold, trigger, clock, and transport modules. Pitch-related modules constrain parts of that movement, while Robert's listening notes establish that the sustained drone remains the carrying layer.
Spatial processing is distributed throughout the patch rather than handled by a single global block. The analyzer found 84 All-pass Delay modules, with several output branches containing their own large diffusion networks, plus Chorus+, Mod Delay, Long Delay, and Pitch Shift modules. This helps explain why the wind, rain, percussion, and noise details feel embedded in the same deep space.
