About This Soundscape #
The preset behind this soundscape is called Slow Refraction. It is deliberately more minimal than some of my larger Grid patches, but it still creates a full hour of slow harmonic motion and changing atmosphere. The reduced structure leaves space for the central idea to remain audible instead of filling every moment with new events.
The harmony starts from a defined tonal area but does not remain inside one scale. Each new root moves upward by a perfect fourth, or five semitones, so the progression keeps rotating around the circle of fifths. Because the tonal center moves with it, the result feels modal and non-resolving rather than like a conventional chord progression in one key.

Inside the Patch #
The pitch system combines constrained random notes with fixed interval movement and octave wrapping. Root, fourth, fifth, and second relationships keep the voicing open while avoiding a strong major or minor resolution. Pitch changes are conditioned around the amplitude envelopes so voices can retune between events instead of clicking in the middle of a note. A related bass branch follows the harmonic motion and fades around note changes.
Several oscillator and noise paths turn that shared pitch logic into separate layers. Random pitch and trigger streams feed probability-based events, filters, frequency shifting, modulated delays, and smoothed modulation. The analyzer found six Audio Out modules, indicating several independently assembled branches rather than one single signal chain.
Spatial processing is distributed across the patch. The graph contains 25 All-pass Delay modules and six Chorus+ modules alongside other delays and filters. Those diffusion and modulation stages smear the tonal voices and noise details into one slowly moving field while the harmony continues its rotation.
