We Can Sleep in Orbit
Music-Video | Aug 23, 2026

About This Soundscape #
The preset behind this soundscape is called Soft Orbit. It is a warmer and more positive continuation of the harmonic idea behind My Soundscape for Sleeping in a Slowly Turning World, but the patch itself is smaller and more compact. The result is still deep and slow, with a softer, airier top end and more light in the overall atmosphere.
Inside the Patch #
Several Sine oscillators move through the circle of fifths in randomized steps. The harmony does not remain inside one scale, because each movement changes the tonal center instead of resolving inside a fixed diatonic progression. Robert describes the result as a modal chord progression: related harmonic areas remain connected, but the patch can keep circling without settling into one key. For more background on this approach, see Circle of Fifths in Bitwig.
The tonal material is deliberately simple. Sine voices feed the reverb while a Noise layer fills the top end. That Noise also modulates low-pass and high-pass filtering, so the airy layer changes over time instead of remaining as one static wash.
The preset graph confirms a compact multi-voice structure with randomized pitch and trigger paths, octave and pitch processing, filters, chorus, modulated delays, and a large all-pass diffusion network. The 23 All-pass Delay modules spread the otherwise simple Sine material into a wide field. A focused explanation of this technique is available in All-Pass Reverb in Bitwig Grid That Sounds Diffused.
