Gate In
Bitwig Platform
The per-voice note gate supplied by the surrounding Grid device.
What it does
Gate In is high while the note assigned to the current Grid voice is active and low after that note is released. It is the standard lifetime and articulation source for envelopes, switches, and voice-dependent logic.

Practical uses
- Trigger an ADSR and keep it active for the duration of each played note.
- Use the falling edge to start a release process or close a per-voice signal path.
Things to know
- In a polyphonic Grid, each voice receives its own gate rather than one global keyboard gate.
- Legato, mono voice modes, voice stealing, and sustain can change when a gate rises or falls.
- The module reports the device's note state; it does not create notes or trigger audio by itself.
Technical details
No Nitro implementation has been confirmed for this visible module. The behavior is described conservatively from module metadata and editorial research.
The functional output is a per-voice boolean signal, conventionally 1 during the host-assigned note lifetime and 0 otherwise. The note-event-to-voice allocation occurs at the Grid host boundary, so no dedicated Nitro wrapper or exact edge sample has been recovered.
Open questions
- Measure edge timing for note on/off, sustain, legato, retrigger, voice stealing, True Mono, Digi Mono, and voice stacking.
