Velocity In
Bitwig Platform
The normalized note-on or release velocity associated with the current Grid voice.
What it does
Velocity In supplies performance velocity as a per-voice unipolar signal. Velocity Mode determines whether the module reports only note-on velocity or also makes note-off velocity available, and the active non-default mode is indicated on the device face.

Practical uses
- Scale amplifier or filter-envelope depth from playing strength.
- Use release velocity to vary release time or post-note effects when the selected mode exposes it.
Things to know
- The nominal signal range is 0 to 1.
- Velocity is captured note data, not the same as continuously changing pressure.
- Release velocity depends on the controller and note source; many devices always send a fixed or missing value.
Technical details
No Nitro implementation has been confirmed for this visible module. The behavior is described conservatively from module metadata and editorial research.
The host normalizes MIDI or internal note velocity into a per-voice scalar, nominally v/127 for 7-bit MIDI sources while Bitwig's internal note model can retain higher precision. Exact switching and hold semantics for each Velocity Mode are host behavior and have no recovered Nitro body.
Open questions
- Record every Velocity Mode label and measure note-on, held, release, missing-release, legato, and voice-stealing behavior.
Version and sources
Checked against Bitwig Studio 6.0.6. This page combines Bitwig's module metadata, the existing Grid course and guides, and Nitro analysis where the mapping is strong enough to support a technical statement.
